Coastal Raceway's Race Formulas

......................................................................................................................................................

Here's a brief rundown of the different formulas that race at Coastal Raceway. Please check out  the Fixture List to see which formulas are racing and when!

Banger Racing

Bangers
The crowd favorite! Full contact racing where dishing a big hit is rated as highly as winning the race! Bangers feature in a variety of guises throughout the season, from the 1400cc class to the unmissable Unlimited Bangers, where the drivers race the biggest, most powerful cars they can find! The ever popular 'Destruction Derby' usually finishes the days action, the aim being to destroy all other cars and be the last man moving!

Push & Spin
Coastal Raceway's Push & Spin formula has quickly become one of our most popular race categories. Cars with a 1600cc limit race to limited contact rules, allowing cars to last several meetings. Invasions of visiting drivers from other clubs make for some very lively racing in this class - the 20 on 20 England V Wales Team Series tends to provide superb action. The Push&Spin formula also has a special date for Unlimited CC cars once a season. Check our Fixture List for details!

JNR Push & Spin
Formerly a guest formula at Coastal Raceway, The Jnr Push & Spin class will feature at every race meeting in 2012. This is the training ground for the future stars on Banger Racing - the drivers are aged from 10 - 16 yrs, and race specially prepared FWD vehicles up to 1200cc.  Although small in stature, some of these youngsters are keen as mustard and usually provide plenty of action.

Endurance Racing

Crazy 8 racing
Formerly the Crazy 8. 'Crazy 5' Challenges are team-based endurance events of 5 hours in length that take place on a specially extended circuit at Coastal Raceway. Each team, comprised of up to 8 drivers, race a single car continuously throughout the event. The aim is to complete as many laps as possible within the allotted time - having as much fun as possible in the process! Crazy 8 vehicle preparation is deliberately simple, making these events ideal for novices and old timers alike.

Non-Contact Racing

Juniors
The training ground for the future stars of oval racing. The Juniors Class is a non-contact formula for 10-16yr olds. Cars are restricted to 1100cc with minimal modifications allowed. Always competitive, this class has become increasingly dominated by the Citroen AX in recent years. Coastal also runs a 'Novice Juniors' class for Juniors with little experience, where a parent / Guardian is permitted to sit alongside the driver.

Production Rods
New for 2012, The Production Rod Class is an entry level adult formula aimed at drivers racing to a limited budget. Comprising of FWD or RWD cars up to 1500cc with minimal modifications allowed to keep racing cheap and competitive.  We expect this class to become quite popular!

FWD GT Rods
Modified FWD vehicles 1500cc and over. Any standard production body shell can be used with any engine and transmission. Makes for some very quick racing! This Class is new from 2012 and is a direct replacement for  Grasstrack Class 6.

Super Rods
New for 2012, The Super Rod formula is for modified RWD or 4WD vehicles over 1500cc and replaces Coastal's former Class 3 and 7. These are super fast, tail happy beasts and sit at the pinnacle of non contact racing at Coastal. Not for the faint hearted.
